    Andy Bayer has been named the Big Ten Track Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 23-30, the conference has announced. Bayer wins the award for the second consecutive week after posting world-leading times in the 3,000 meters and the mile in consecutive weekends. Bayer takes home his sixth Big Ten weekly honor (two cross country, three indoor, one outdoor).

  • Sheila Reid Registers NCAA Qualifying Time in 3000 Meters at New York Armory

    Senior Sheila Reid (Newmarket, Ont.) has the fastest time in the nation in the 3000 meters this season by a margin of five seconds after winning the event in the second of two "College Saturday Night" meets at the New York Armory on Saturday evening. Reid accounted for one of six first-place finishes by the Wildcats with an NCAA qualifying time and Villanova came in third out of 10 in the team standings with the contingent of athletes it sent to the meet.

  • Gibney and Mackenzie Open Up With Wins at the New York Armory on Saturday Night

    Seniors Matthew Gibney (Albury, Australia) and Carl Mackenzie (Lower Hutt, New Zealand) won their respective events in each runner's indoor season debut and Villanova had a successful outing in the second of two "College Saturday Night" meets at the New York Armory on Saturday night. A small contingent of Wildcats at the meet combined to tally 76 points and enable Villanova to finish fourth out of 12 in the team standings.

Scott's 23.17 finish was an NCAA automatic qualifying time and a new personal record for the first-year Knight.

    Indiana track and field ranks highly in the first release of the national computer rankings from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Hoosier men rank seventh after being slotted 10th in the preseason ranks, and the women are 16th after finding themselves outside the top 25 in the preseason. The rankings, based on a point system, find the men less than one point out of sixth and the women less than two points out of the top 15.

UConn routed the competition at the Armory, defeating the second-place finisher, No. 11 Villanova, by 52 points.

    The Gladstein Invitational is the first large meet of the year for Indiana. The meet is the second of six meets hosted by IU during the indoor campaign, including four meets in 35 days. The meet will feature more than 20 teams and more than 800 athletes. This meet features combined events competition, which will begin at noon ET on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. Field events begin at 3:20 p.m. and running events at 4:30 on Friday and at noon and 11 a.m. respectively on Saturday.
