Pac-10 Conference Commissioner Larry Scott has announced the 38 student-athletes from around the conference that have been honored as 2009-10 Pac-10 Postgraduate Scholarship winners with four Arizona State University student-athletes among those honorees, including Liz Harkin (soccer), Ali Kielty (cross country/track & field), Mike Nixon (football) and Ryan Whiting (track & field).
The accolades for Ryan Whiting, a six-time NCAA champion for the Arizona State University track & field program, continue to roll in this week as he has been named Track & Field News' Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year while also being selected as one of three finalists for the Bowerman Award, the highest honor given to collegiate track & field student-athletes each year.
Following a pair of national titles and another highly successful outdoor campaign, Arizona State University track & field standout Ryan Whiting was named the U.S. Track & Field, Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Co-National Male Field Athlete of the Year for Outdoor Track & Field in Division I, the Association announced today.
The 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships came to a close on Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., with the Arizona State University men's program celebrating one of its more successful seasons as the team finished fourth overall in the national standings and saw Ryan Whiting capture his second national title of the week, this time the shot put, to lead the Sun Devils in their final competition of the season.
