Roanoke runners Tim Smith and Grace England competed at the 2011 NCAA Div. III National Championships Saturday afternoon at Lake Breeze Golf Club. It's the first time since 2006 that both a male and a female from Finn Pincus' roster have advanced to the national meet.
Senior male runner Tim Smith and freshman female harrier Grace England will travel Thursday to Oshkosh, WI to compete in the NCAA Div. III Cross Country Championships. UW-Oshkosh will host the meet, which will take place at Lake Breeze Golf Club.
Senior Cross Country runner Tim Smith finished second overall in the NCAA DIII Cross Country Regionals held at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin Texas. His time was good enough to qualify for the National Meet held November 19th in at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the ODAC Cross Country Championships Saturday morning. Tim Smith was named both the ODAC Runner and Scholar-Athlete of the Year while freshman Grace England garnered the ODAC Women’s Rookie of the Year.
Completing a second day at the races, another group of Roanoke harriers raced at Guilford College’s invitational. A select group of runners competed in Appalachian State’s Blue Ridge Open on Friday afternoon.
Running against high powered Division I teams on the campus of Appalachian State, the men’s cross country team placed 18th at the Blue Ridge Open Friday afternoon. The Maroons were the second Div. III team at the meet, behind regionally-ranked Bridgewater.
Roanoke College Cross Country runners Tim Smith (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) and Grace England (Dublin,VA, Pulaski County) swept ODAC Runner of the Week honors for the third time this season.
Roanoke’s College men and women cross team traveled to Center Valley, PA Saturday to compete at the DeSales Invitational. The venue featured four races (four men, four women) consisting of nearly 50 teams and over 800 athletes. Senior captain Tim Smith won his third-straight race of the season for the men, leading the Maroons to an eighth-place finish. The women finished 15th.
