University Kansas hurdler Michael Stigler was named the 2012 Big 12 Outstanding Male Freshman of the Year when the conference announced its outdoor postseason honors Wednesday. The awards were voted on by the league head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own athletes.

The women earned 128.5 points to finish second overall, the highest conference finish for a KU women's team in program history. The Jayhawk men finished eighth, having collected 64 points over the three-day event.
Junior Francine Simpson collected her second league long jump title this season and first outdoor title of her career Saturday at the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Kansas State University. Simpson's victory helped the KU women take the overnight lead in the team point standings with only one day of competition remaining.
Senior Alena Krechyk was crowned the conference's hammer throw champion Friday at the 2012 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Kansas State University. Krechyk's winning mark of 69.02 meters (226-05 ft.) smashed both the Big 12 meet record and Kansas State facility record as well as her own school record and moved her to No. 3 in the NCAA this year.

Kansas' men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Manhattan, Kan. May 11-13 for the 2012 Big 12 Outdoor Championships held at R.V. Christian Track Complex on the campus of Kansas State University. One of the most prestigious meets in the nation, this year's championships will feature a combined 13 teams ranked in the men's and women's USTFCCCA Top 25 rankings, the most of any conference.
A total of 27 Kansas student-athletes have been named to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Men's & Women's Track & Field Teams, the league office announced Tuesday. The conference listed 156 female student-athletes, including 140 first team members and 16 second team honorees. On the men's side, 116 earned honors, with 86 first team and 30 second team selections.
Kansas track and field closed out the regular season Friday night as the Jayhawks competed at the Arkansas Twilight in Fayetteville, Ark. Eleven Jayhawks recorded new personal bests times and marks, many of which moved the athletes up the individual Big 12 rankings as the conference meet looms just one week away.
