EUGENE, Ore.- Iowa State's Jordan Andreassen put together a career-day to place her third in the heptathlon Saturday at the USATF Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Andreassen, a Polk City native, started the day off with a career-best 14.69 in the 100 hurdles on her way to a third-place finish in the event. She followed that up with 5-foot, 3-inch high jump for a tie for fourth in the event. Andreassen added to her success with a career-best 32-6 1/2 throw in the shot put, over a foot farther than her previous best.

Cyclone Meaghan Nelson of Cedar Rapids put in an impressive performance. Nelson ran to a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 meter-run with a time of 17:30.55, over 12 seconds faster than her clocking at the Big 12 Championships.

Michael Zika threw the discus 172 feet to finish 11th in the event and establish a personal record. Anthony Johnson also put forth a solid effort in the long jump, finishing eighth with a 24-foot jump.

Kianna Elahi qualified for Sunday's 400 hurdles final, finishing fourth in the prelims. However, Matt Brinkley just missed out on his 400 hurdles final, finishing in ninth place.
