Wildcats second in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The ACU men's and women's cross country teams each finished second Saturday in their season-opening dual meet against Alaska-Anchorage in the Alaska-Anchorage Invitational at Kincaid Park.

The UAA women won the dual meet with 16 points to 47 for the rebuilding Wildcats, while the UAA men scored 22 points to win the meet over the No. 4 ACU men, who had 33 points.

On the men's side, Micah Chelimo won the individual race with a time of 15:18.60, handily beating ACU's Cleophas Tanui, who was second in 15:44.90.  UAA, though, had the third and fourth-place finishers to help sew up the team title.  The Wildcats -- running without top runner Daniel Maina -- saw Spencer Lynn finish fifth in 16:13.60 and Jake Schofield finish seventh in 16:33.40.

On the women's side, the only ACU runner to finish in the top 14 was Chloe Susset, who was fifth in 19:32.00.  The rest of ACU's runners finished 15th-18th, led by Shayla Herndon's 15th-place finish in 21:32.40.

Both ACU teams are back in action next Saturday at the McMurry Invitational.
