ACU runs to 4th-place finish


EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Competing for the first time this season with most of its team on the course, the fifth-ranked ACU Wildcats ran to a fourth-place finish Saturday at the Southern Indiana Pre-National Invitational cross country meet.

The Wildcats finished with 106 points, well behind team champion Stonehill College, which finished with 42 points.  Southern Indiana was second on its home course with 69 points, while Harding was third with 98 points.

The Bison were led by individual champion Daniel Kirwa, who finished the 8-kilometer course in 24 minutes, 35.53 seconds.

ACU had three runners in the top 11, led by Amos Sang, who finished as the individual runner-up to Kirwa, covering the USI course in 24:38.43.  Sang's ACU teammate, Cleophas Tanuki, was fourth in 25:05.01.  Colby Delbene was 11th in 26:19.54 to give ACU three solid top-11 finishes.

Jake Schofield finished 27th in 27:04.75, while freshman Spencer Lynn was 63rd in 29:35.50.

ACU will be off until Oct. 10 when it hosts the Naimadu Pre-Regional Invitational at Nelson Park in Abilene.
