HANOVER, N.H. - Junior Tom Robbins (Evanston, Ill.) led the Dartmouth men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish in the gold division at the Paul Short Invitational as he took home the fifth spot individually.
Robbins finished the 8k course in 23:44, which was only four seconds behind Ryan Hill of N.C. State, who won the event with a time of 23:40. Robbins was right with the pack through the first mile and kept his pace consistently at 4:47.
“Tom ran his best race in his Dartmouth career today,” said head coach Barry Harwick. “He ran against some of the most talented runners in the nation and had a great chance to win the race.”
Senior Chris Zablocki (Essex, Conn.) also ran well for the Big Green with a 20th-place finish with a time of 24:05 and ran a 4:51 pace during the race, while sophomore Ethan Shaw (Falmouth, Maine) was another top finisher for Dartmouth as he took home 38th overall with a time of 24:27. Senior captain Kevin Treadway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) was 10 seconds behind Shaw and took 53rd at 24:38.
The team finished with 240 points on the afternoon and placed sixth out of 42 teams. Indiana took home the top spot with 44 points, while Iona totaled 55 points for second place.
Dartmouth will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at Keene State as the Big Green will be sending another squad to southern New Hampshire.
