CHICAGO, ILL. -- Drake senior Jeff Grassmeyer (Fremont, Neb.) finished fifth out of 408 runners at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational men's cross country meet Saturday.

Grassmeyer was clocked in 25 minutes 10 seconds matching his previous personal best in the event.

Drake junior Mike Bumgarner (Rosemount, Minn.) placed 42nd in 26:15, while sophomore Colin Hagan (Wichita, Kan.) was 52nd in 26:32.

"Jeff (Grassmeyer) had another solid race for us," said Drake head cross country coach Dan Hostager. "He is just starting to get going for us.
 
"We had good efforts which should help us down the road as we point toward the conference meet," continued Hostager. "We were able to run more people so we had some guys run their first 8K of the season."

Drake placed ninth overall in the 28-team men's division, tallying 252 points. Miami of Ohio won the team championship with 62 points.

Drake will take a week off before resuming action at the Bradley Classic Oct. 16 in Peoria, Ill.
