Men's Cross Country Moves Up Another Spot In Southeast Rankings

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Davidson men's cross country team moved up to 12th in the USTFCCCA Southeast region rankings on Monday after besting several other regionally-ranked and Southern Conference opponents on Friday at the Blue Ridge Open.

The Wildcats have been ranked regionally by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association since Sept. 28. They entered the poll at No. 14 and moved up to 13th on Oct. 5.

The 'Cats were edged by High Point (now-No. 11 Southeast), 76-77 to place second on Friday. Davidson's Lance Harden and Ryan Hopkins were the top finishers in team scoring. Harden placed fourth overall in 25 minutes, 2 seconds. Hopkins was not far behind, placing sixth overall in 25:13.

Southern Conference-rival Appalachian State placed third in the meet, and fell from No. 11 in the Southeast down to No. 13. Davidson also finished ahead of Elon (eighth, 212), Western Carolina (ninth, 235), College of Charleston (10th, 286) and UNC Greensboro (18th, 540).

The meet was the final tune-up before the Southern Conference Championships, hosted by Elon on Saturday, Oct. 31.
