LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior
Donnie Graybill won the heptathlon as the Shippensburg University men's indoor track and field team opened the 2009-10 season with a strong debut from the Bison Opener at Bucknell University. The men's and women's teams combined for more than 35 PSAC qualifiers.
Graybill recorded a total of 4,913 points to edge Bucknell senior Ryan White by 28 points. He won the pole vault by clearing 15-feet, 9-inches, the high jump by clearing 6-feet, 6-inches and the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:52.17. The 1,000-meters was the last event and ultimately earned Graybill the title.
Freshman Matthew Terry performed well in his collegiate debut, placing second in the long jump (22-7) and third in the triple jump (45-11.25). The Red Raiders had three athletes finish in the Top 8 for the long jump with Terry (2nd; 22-feet, 7- inches), freshman Cody DeBoer (7th; 22-feet, 2.25 inches) and senior
Allan Lehman (8th; 21-feet, 3.25-inches).
Freshman Dan Speaks finished seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.00 seconds and also finished ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.45 seconds. Freshman DJ Green finished 17th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.85.
Five Red Raiders finished among the Top 12 in the 400-meter dash, including junior
Todd Phillips (4th, 51.69), sophomore
Eric Wolfe (7th, 51.96), sophomore
Kyle Raguz (9th, 52.10), sophomore
Tyrek Nelson (11th, 52.18) and freshman
Marcus Line (12th, 52.19).
Freshman Joel Flott finished ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.34.Sophomore Terrance Topping-Brown finished 10th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.73 seconds while sophomore
Tyrek Nelson finished 11th in 8.75 seconds. Sophomore
Travis Hammaker finished in a tie for sixth place in the pole vault by clearing 14-feet, 9-inches.
Shippensburg returns to action on Jan. 23, 2010 from Bucknell with a scored meet.
