MSU Cross Country Teams Race in Blue Ridge Open, Wakeman Finishes 11th

Boone, NC. – The Morehead State men’s and women’s cross country teams raced in the Tar Heel state this afternoon in the Blue Ridge Open at Appalachian State University on the Don Kennedy Trail. The men were led by junior Josh Wakeman who crossed the line in 11th place overall with a time of 25:30.76 and as a team placed 13th of 19 teams. The women were led by senior Alexis King who finished 86th with a time of 20:02.54 and as a team placed 14th of 15 teams.

“The course was sloppy today which caused some of the times to be a little slower than normal.” said Head Coach Tommy Barksdale. “There was some good competition in this meet, some big schools where competing, we ran with some of the best today.”

Also running for the men today was James Bowens who finished in 57th place with a time of 26:27.08 and Michael Settles who ran a time of 27:18.56 which was good for 96th place. Matt Dotson finished the course in a time of 27:59.19 and Brian Knight ran a time of 28:06.83. Rounding it out for the Eagle men was Jeffrey Covington who ran a time of 28:45.98.

For the women Ruth Millard ran a time of 20:19.55 which was good for 96th place and Liz Braunwart finished the course with a time of 21:12.03. Natalie Norman crossed the line with a time of 21:25.13 and rounding it out for the Eagle women was Kate Bomar who finished the course with a time of 21:44.11.

The top two schools in the men’s meet were High Point University who finished with 76 points and Davidson College who finished just behind High Point with 77 points.

Duke University won the women’s meet with 18 points and Virginia Tech took second with 104 points.

The MSU men’s and women’s cross country teams will be back in action for the OVC Championships in Nashville, Tenn., on Oct. 31.
