BOSTON, Mass. -- Earning an individual bid to the NCAA Championships, junior Nate Edelman led the Cornell men's cross country team on Saturday at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships.  Edelman earned All-Region honors with his 9th place showing and also earned a spot at the NCAA Championships next week in Terre Haute, IN.  With the field now set for the NCAAs and Syracuse, Iona and Providence all moving on as teams from the Northeast, Edelman advances to the NCAAs as the third individual in the Northeast Region. Edelman's selection marks the third straight year the Cornell men's team has advanced an individual to the NCAA Championships.

The men's 10K was the first college race of the day, although eight high school races preceded the college race, putting the course in remarkably poor shape with significant mud and standing water throughout the course. Edelman was in the top 10 throughout the race, ultimately moving up to 9th in the final 400 meters, running 31:18.  Also running well was senior co-captain Charlie Hatch, who placed a career-best 36th in 32:28. Junior Max Kasak stepped up with a fine 41st showing of 32:43. Senior Pete Loy was 70th in 33:15 and classmate Joel Frost-Tift rounded out the scoring five with a 79th place run of 33:23 despite losing his shoe early in the race in the mud. Battling illness, junior Matt De Silva was 88th in 33:36 and senior co-captin Dale Taylor was 97th in 33:53. The Big Red placed 7th of 36 teams with 235 points.
