KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State freshman Michelle Quimby was named the Atlantic Sun Women's Field Athlete of the week on Wednesday. Her honor came after winning the Pole Vault event at the Appalachian State Invitational on December 5.

The Ballston Lake, NY native vaulted 11 feet and five-and-three-quarter inches to win the event in her collegiate debut, setting a new KSU Indoor record in the Pole Vault in the process. She also competed in the High Jump, finishing tied for ninth place, clearing a height of five feet-two and-a-quarter inches.

“We are very fortunate to have Michelle at KSU,” track and field head coach Don McGarey said. “Her first place in the pole vault this weekend and ninth in the high jump demonstrates her versatility. I think we have been given just a small preview of what she will accomplish when the team returns to action in January.”

Quimby was thrilled to receive the award, and is thankful for the opportunity to help her team.

“I’m so happy to be at a program like Kennesaw State. The coaches and the veterans have really helped me to adjust well. Hopefully this is a just a beginning for me,” she said.

It was a successful weekend overall for the Owls, who saw four indoor program records fall and three athletes win their respective events.
