HPU has three top-ten finishers in mile at ETSU

The High Point University men's track & field team had a solid showing in the mile, with three top-ten finishers. Josh Morgan (Asheville, N.C./TC Roberson), Jacob Smith (Brockville, Ontario/Thousand Islands Secondary School) and Jevin Monds (Whitecourt, Alberta/Hilltop) finished second, fifth and seventh, respectively in the event. Alex Fisher (Roanoke, Va./William Byrd ) finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdle finals and Dakota Peachee (Garner, N.C./West Johnston) finished second in the 3,000-meter on the final day of the ETSU Noswinger Invitational.

“The men represented very well in the mile and Dakota's finish was a positive for us today,” said head coach Mike Esposito. “Alex Fisher came within a hundredth of a second of his personal record in the 60-meter hurdle. Overall we were very competitive this weekend and showing progress toward have a strong showing at the indoor championship.”

Morgan finished the mile in second place (4:16.16) with Smith following in fifth (4:16.87) and Monds in seventh (4:17.49).

Sophomore Neal Darmody (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) finished the 5,000-meter in 15:05.36, good for fourth place overall and third among collegiate competitors. Peachee placed second in the 3,000-meter with a time of 8:45.

After qualifying for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles on Friday with a time of 8.39 in the preliminaries, Fisher finished fourth in the finals in 8.38.

In the distance medley relay Stuart Edmonds (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg), Josh Cashman (Deep River, Conn./Valley Regional), Corey Grove (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) and Peachee finished fourth in 10:30.25.

TJ Brancaccio (Norcross, Ga./Norcross ) finished tied for ninth in the pole vault, clearing 14'7.25.

Cole Atkins (Charleston, S.C./Academic Magnet) ran the 3,000-meter unattached and finished third 8:24.15. Atkins, a graduate student at HPU, is out of eligibility for the indoor season but will compete for HPU in the outdoor season.

The Panthers return to competition next weekend at the UNC Open.
