Gamble sets personal record in 60-meter hurdles

Manika Gamble (Jacksonville, N.C./Jacksonville )
set a personal record and finished fifth in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles as the High Point University women's track & field team wrapped up competition at the ETSU Noswinger Invitational. Vanessa Piacente (Toronto, Ontario/Cardinal Newman Catholic) and Geneva Winterink (Oshawa, Ontario/Paul Dwyer Catholic) both placed in the top ten in the mile.

“The competitive fire is starting to come out,” said head coach Mike Esposito. “They are getting in to competitive situations and working hard and with that will come the times we need to win championships.”

Gamble finished the 60-meter hurdles in 8.74. On Friday she qualified for the finals after finished in the 8.91 and winning her heat.

Piacente ran the mile in 5:15.46 finishing in third and Winterink finished in sixth in 5:18.37.

On Friday Joya Canfield (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) ran the 800-meter in 2:18.02, good for third place. She also ran the 400-meter in 60.44. Lora Robinson (Salisbury, Md./Parkside ) ran the 200-meter in 26.78.

High Point will compete next weekend at the UNC Open.
