Conarroe Wins 5,000 Meters at Liberty Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Junior Heather Conarroe won the 5,000 meters, followed immediately by classmate Danielle Ruggieri, to pace the Wildcat women's track and field team at the Liberty Invitational this weekend.

Conarroe finished the event with a winning time of 18:12.23, while Ruggieri was the runner up with a time of 18:12.72.

Freshman Natalie Atabek and sophomore Jane Gay continued the strong performance by the Wildcat distance runners. Atabek finished third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:19.48. Gay placed 10th in the mile with a time of 5:26.02 and was also the team's top finisher in the 1,000 meters, placing fourth with a time of 3:10.83.

Junior Erin Lupfer finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.6 meters, and sophomore Danielle Wright paced the sprinters. She finished 13th in the 60 meters with a time of 8.26 and also had the team's top finish in the 200 meters, placing seventh with a time of 27.07.

The Wildcats will return to action at the Carolina Invitational Feb. 12 on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
