NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Big Red men's track and field teams competed in New York City this weekend at two different venues and had terrific results.  After the men's 4X800 finished fourth at the Millrose Games on Friday night, the full team competed at the New York Road Runners' "College Saturday Night at the Armory" on Saturday evening, a scored meet featuring Heps rivals Princeton and Columbia, Big East foes Villanova and UConn, ACC power Virginia, as well as Albany, Army, Delaware State and Morgan State.  The Cornell men were a close second to Princeton, scoring 109.5 points to the Tigers' 126.

The Cornell men's team got their weekend off to a good start on Friday at Madison Square Garden as junior Tommy Roy (1:57), freshman Nick Wade (1:53), senior Owen Kimple (1:53) and senior Charlie Hatch (1:55) ran 7:39.81 to place fourth in the 4X800 in a good field.

On Saturday, the Cornell men competed in a spirited team competition that was close throughout.  With an event win, nine top-three finishes and 19 IC4A qualifiers along with a pair of additions to the all-time top 10 lists and a freshman record, the Big Red tallied 109.5 points to finish over twenty-five points clear of Virginia and UConn.  The Big Red had a number of top showings in the field.  Senior co-captain Duane Teixeira won the long jump with an IC4A qualifying 24-3 3/4 and fellow senior co-captain Josh Kirkpatrick was fourth in a season best 23-3 1/4, also reaching the IC4A standard.  In the triple jump, senior standout Gary Jones was second with a mark of 49-8 1/2 (another IC4A qualifier); senior Julian Remouns was eighth  at 45-3 1/2.  In the pole vault, senior Rick Zamora cleared the IC4A standard yet again, going over 15-9 to place second; classmate Jason Inzana was fourth at 15-3 1/4.  In the throws, sophomore Bob Belden had another good day, producing a pair of IC4A qualifiers, placing third in the weight at 57-11 3/4 and taking sixth in the shot put at 51-11 1/4.  Senior Damian Silverstrim was fifth in the weight throw at 55-11 3/4, also an IC4A qualifier.  Freshman Jourdan White scored points for Cornell in the high jump, placing seventh at 6-6 1/4.

On the track, freshman Nick Wade continued his fine season by placing third in the 800 with a time of 1:51.96, good for #6 all-time, an IC4A qualifier and a new school freshman record.   Sophomore Nick Huber had a very good day, placing third in the 400 at 48.80 and then fourth in the 60 hurdles at 8.33 (he ran an IC4A qualifying 8.25 in the prelims).  Classmate Danny Hagberg also made the finals, placing third in an IC4A-qualifying 8.21.  A pair of freshmen impressed in the 60 as Bruno Hortelano-Roig ran 6.92 in the prelims (#6 all-time) and placed fifth in the final at 6.93; classmate Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom was eighth in 7.02.  Hortelano-Roig came back to get fifth in the 200 at 22.51.  The Big Red had very good runs and a pair of personal best, IC4A qualifiers in the 3K:  junior Nate Edelman ran 8:17.72 for fourth and senior Dale Taylor was sixth in 8:19.87.  Junior Brian Freitas was fifth in the 500 at 64.43 and senior co-captain Mike Kippins was close behind in sixth at 64.51 as both bettered the IC4A standard.  In the 1000, freshman David McCuiston was eighth in 2:30.33.

Cornell closed out the meet with solid relays that bettered the IC4A qualifying marks.  The 4X400 of sophomore Cody Boyd (49.2), Kippins (48.2), Freitas (50.1) and Huber (48.1) ran 3:15.78 for third and the DMR of Kimple (3:03.1), sophomore Dan Thomas (49.2), Hatch (1:53.1) and junior Adrien Dannemiller (4:13.7) ran a seasonal best 10:00.20 for second to Virginia.
