SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson senior Tom Divinnie was voted the Southern Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for all meets Jan. 29-30 after winning both the 5000-meter and mile runs at Liberty Open with conference-best times.

Appalachian State's Darius Purcell was recognized as the SoCon's top field athlete of the week. The league's track and field coaches make the selections.

A native of Brentwood, Tenn., Divinnie broke two school records at the Liberty Open. He won the 5K on Friday with a time of 14 minutes, 44.59 seconds, and his time of 4:16.30 in the mile on Saturday also took first place. Both times were personal bests and also currently lead the conference. He also holds the top time in the 3K, a school-record 8:47.23 set the previous week.

This is Divinnie's second-ever track athlete of the week honor, and the first since his freshman year.

Purcell was the top collegiate and second overall finisher in the high jump at the Liberty Open. His league-leading leap of six feet, 10 ¾ inches set a personal best and ranks fourth in school history.

The Davidson track and field team will return to action on Friday, Feb. 12 when they compete in the UNC Invitational for their final tune-up before the Southern Conference Indoor Championships.
