Track and Field Competes at MTSU Invitational on Saturday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.
– Sophomore Diamond Benjamin and freshmen Picoty Leitich and Bianca Forbes all won events as the Eastern Kentucky University track and field team competed at the Middle Tennessee State Invitational on Saturday.

Benjamin won the preliminaries of the 55 meters with a time of 7.07 and then won the finals of the event with a personal best time of 7.03. Benjamin also finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.30.

Leitich won the mile with a time of 5:03.82, narrowly edging Samford’s Lauren D’Alessio (5:03.87). Leitich then placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.54.

Forbes won the 400 meters with a personal best time of 56.61. The performance also moved her to fourth on EKU’s all-time indoor 400 meters list. Forbes also ran in the 200 meters and finished eighth in a time of 25.93.

Several of EKU’s top men’s runners did not compete at the invitational.

The meet featured such teams as Middle Tennessee State, Samford, Western Kentucky, Arkansas State, Chattanooga and Belmont.

The EKU track and field teams will return to action at the Indiana University Hoosier Hills Open and the University of Arkansas Tyson Invitational next weekend.
