CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman jumper Jelain McArthur (Laurens, S.C./Laurens District) continued to break her own school records as the College of Charleston women's track & field team competed at the Gene Anderson UNC Invitational on Friday.
McArthur led a contingency of three Cougars in the 60-meter hurdles, where she placed fourth in the preliminaries with a school-record time of 8.93 seconds. Her time is three-tenths of a second faster than the previous record she set at the UNC Classic on Jan. 24. She ran a time of 9.01 seconds in the finals to finish third.
Juniors Isabel Boersma (Franklin, Tenn./Ravenwood) and Brynne Johnson (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) also had good performances in the hurdles. Johnson ran a personal-best time of 9.68 seconds, shaving off thirteen-hundredths of a second from her previous personal record, to place 17th.
McArthur also performed well in the triple jump. Her jump of 38'8¼" is the second-farthest in school history, behind her record-setting performance at the Clemson Games on Jan. 30. McArthur first broke the school record the event at UNC's Eddie Smith Field House on Jan. 24 at the UNC Classic.
In the sprints, junior Mary Zolga (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) led the Cougars by finishing ninth in the 400 meters.
