The High Point University men's track & field team completed competition at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Saturday in Blacksburg, Va.
Josh Morgan placed ninth in the 800-meter and
Jevin Monds took ninth in the mile to lead the Panthers.
"We fell short of what we thought we could accomplish this weekend, but I'm confident that the team will be ready for the Big South Championship next weekend," said HPU head coach
Mike Esposito. "I know we're doing the right things, we just need to bounce back at the championship meet."
Morgan ran the 800-meter in 1:53.19, his best performance of the season. Monds' time in the mile (4:13.18) was nearly two seconds faster than his time at the UNC Invitational.
Jacob Smith also ran the mile, placing 13th in 4:18.72.
Stuart Edmonds rounded out the Panthers in the mile finishing in 4:42.87 for 29th place.
Behing Morgan in the 800-meter,
Alex Ruano took 31st in 2:01.26 and
Seth Harwood placed 34th in 2:03.20.
Sebastien Bonnot had a strong run in the 400-meter, finishing in 52.92 after running the 200-meter on Friday night.
On Friday, sophomore
Alex Fisher took ninth in the 60-meter hurdles. In the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, Fisher ran a time of 8.40 and was edged for a spot in the finals. UNC Wilmington's Devon Watlington and Johnson C. Smith's Christopher Sams also ran 8.40 but were just ahead of Fisher.
Junior
Justin Conaway placed 13th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.06, just off his season best.
Freshman
Dakota Peachee took fifth in his heat and 16th overall in the 3,000-meter, running a season-best time of 8:41.56.
HPU will compete at the Big South Indoor Championship next weekend in Clemson, S.C.
