Wildcat Women in Eighth after Day One at SoCon Indoor Championships

CLEMSON, S.C. --The Davidson Wildcat women's track and field team is in eighth place after the first full day of competition Thursday at the 2010 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Clemson Indoor Track on the campus of Clemson University. 

Appalachian State is in first place with 53 points, with Western Carolina just behind with 50 points. Georgia Southern (38), Elon (33), College of Charleston (22), Samford (20) and Chattanooga (12) are ahead of Davidson (3). Furman (2) and the Citadel (1) round out the field. 

Freshman Natalie Atabek scored points for the 'Cats in the 3,000 meters with an eighth-place time of 10:22.56, and classmate Rosie Lewis ran a school-record time of 9.22 in the 60 meter hurdles. 

Sophomore Erin Lupfer finished seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.58 meters to score points for the Wildcats.

Sophomore Danielle Wright (8.29) and freshman Shelby Wagenseller (8.63) competed for the Wildcats in the 60 meters. The pair also ran in the 200 meters, finishing with times of 27.10 and 28.49, respectively, while freshman Rosie Lewis also competed (27.11). Classmate Jena Manilla ran in the 400 meters, finishing with a time of 67.43.

Sophomore Jane Gay was the Wildcats' top finisher in the 800 meters, finishing with a time of 2:24.86 in the prelims. Freshman Caroline Gecker (2:32.89), freshman Cara Wilck (2:39.46) and sophomore Anna Stockamore (2:40.72) also ran in the event. 

Competition will conclude at the Clemson Indoor Track tomorrow.
