CLEMSON, S.C. – Davidson senior Tom Divinnie concluded his record-breaking indoor season by breaking his own school record in the 5000-meter run Friday at the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in the Indoor Track Complex on the campus of Clemson University.

As a team, Davidson placed fifth with 30 points, trailing Appalachian State (209), Western Carolina (207), Appalachian State (209), Samford (120.50) and The Citadel (42.50).

Divinnie's time of 14 minutes, 36.29 seconds bested his own mark of 14:44.59, set earlier this season, to take third in the event. Sophomore Ryan Hopkins also finished in scoring position, placing sixth in a personal-best 14:49.09, while junior Charlie Schmitt finished ninth in a personal-best 14:51.76.

All three times were below Davidson's 5000m record entering the season of 14:59.2, set by Dan Gibson in 2002.

Freshmen Demetrios Pagonis and Vincent Weir finished 11th (15:02.15) and 13th (15:24.40), respectively to earn SoCon All-Freshman team honors. Pagonis' mark was just below the regulation track standard entering the season of 15:02.3 set by Lance Harden in 2006.

Senior Blake Evitt moved onto the Wildcats' top-10 performers list in the mile with a personal-best time of 4:18.01, which was good for eighth place. Senior Peter Bruton followed with a personal-best 4:18.95.

The 'Cats also took fifth in the 4x400-meter relay, as Eduardo Vaca, Taylor Martin, Melaku Teka and James Tolleson finished in 3:30.00.

During the first day Thursday, Divinnie bested his own school record in the 3000-meter run and a new Davidson distance medley relay standard was set. Mordecai Scott also equaled the 60-meter dash record with a time of 7.13 seconds.

Divinnie finished in eight minutes, 20.39 seconds to best the Davidson standard of 8:24.47 that he set earlier this season. Not far behind was teammate Hopkins, who finished in scoring position in sixth place with a personal-best, Davidson top-10 all-time performance in 8:28.83.

Evitt, Teka, Weir and Bruton finished third in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:16.61, the fastest-ever in school history on a regulation size track.

Scott equaled the mark set by Kwame Som-Pimpong in 2008. He also ran the 200m dash in a personal-best 22.99 to move onto Davidson's top-10 performers list.

Sophomore Ethan Dunn leaped a career-best 21-0 ½ (6.41m) to place in scoring position in eighth and also move on to the Wildcats' top-10 performers list.

Several 'Cats also competed in the sprints but did not advance out of the preliminary rounds.

The Wildcats will next begin the outdoor season Mar. 19-20 at the UNC Charlotte 49er Classic.
