Bouchikhi Provisionally Qualifies for Indoor Nationals

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Eastern Kentucky University freshman Soufiane Bouchikhi won the 3,000 meters at the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday with a time of 7:59.20 and, in doing so, provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Bouchikhi’s time of 7:59.20 is the second fastest indoor 3,000 meters time in school history, less than a second behind Jacob Korir’s school record of 7:58.25.

Bouchikhi, the OVC Co-Male Freshman of the Year, won the 3,000 meters and the mile at the OVC Indoor Championships on February 27.

Senior Christopher Rengifo also ran at the Alex Wilson Invitational and placed 28th in the mile with a time of 4:11.57.

Benjamin, Bowen and Harding Run at Virginia Tech


Sophomores Diamond Benjamin and Lutisha Bowen and freshman DanHeisha Harding also competed this weekend at the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier.

Benjamin, the OVC Champion in the 60 meters and the 200 meters, placed 12th in the 60 meters with a time of 7.71 and 12th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.82.

Bowen and Harding, meanwhile, finished 10th and 11th, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles with times of 8.711 and 8.719. Harding won the 60-meter hurdles at the OVC Indoor Championships.

The NCAA Championships will be held May 11-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
