CONWAY, S.C. – A school record was set en-route to a third place finish in the 4x200 meter relay for the Kennesaw State women on Friday on the first day of the Asics Coastal Carolina Invitational in Conway, S.C.

The 4x200 meter relay team, consisting of freshmen Cynthia Davis and DeCoshia Boswell and sophomores Victoria Jackson and Shelby Hines made their presence felt in their first try as an outdoor relay team, breaking the school record of 1:41.88 set at the University of Georgia last season. They would go on to finish third in the event for the lone top-ten finish of the day for the Owls.

Hines and Jackson are also on the relay team that holds the school record in the 4x100 meters, while Hines is part of the record-setting 4x400 meter relay squad, as well.

“I felt good running today. It was my first time running a 4x200, and it was a good experience,” said Davis, who will be competing in the 200 meter dash on Saturday. “My teammates and I had really good chemistry. We still need to work on our exchanges, but since it’s early in the season it was good to get a feel for that.”

The meet was the first for the women since they finished second in the Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Track Field Championship the weekend of February 27. Being outdoors forced them to face differing weather conditions on Friday, sometimes cool, sometimes warm and humid.

“I thought the team as a whole performed very well today, seeing as it was our first day of outdoor competition. Today’s competition was a good building block for us in terms of shaking some of the rust off, since it has been two weeks since the end of indoor season,” said assistant coach Devin West, who is heading up the trip. “We were fortunate to have the chance to run some relays today. It gave our runners the chance to see that they could already perform at high levels this weekend, and now a lot of them will be running their normal events tomorrow, so they already have that confidence.”
