KENNESAW, Ga. – Head coach Stan Sims announced an addition to next fall’s men’s cross country team this week, as Matt Weiden has signed a letter of intent to run for the Owls.

Weiden, who has done his prep running at Sequoyah High School of Canton, Ga., helped his team to a fifth place finish in the Georgia Region 7-4A Championship, finishing 18th with a time of 17:52 in the 5k event, which is short of his personal best of 15:57 in the 5k. Coach Sims is confident that Weiden can come to Kennesaw and become a major contributor for his squad.

“What I like about Matt is, even though he has dealt with injuries, he’s a hard worker and can be a diamond in the rough for us,” Sims said. “Once he’s consistently trained with us and competed at this level, we think he can be extremely competitive.”

Weiden is the second Owl to commit to Sims’ squad for this coming fall. Dylan Swafford of Central Christian Academy in Macon, Ga. signed with Owls in February.
