Sophomore
Manika Gamble set the High Point University record in the 100-meter hurdles as the women's track & field team competed in the final day of the Wake Forest Open on Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C.
"Manika had really good performances in both hurdle events," said HPU head coach
Mike Esposito. "Obviously getting the school record in the 100 hurdles was a big step, and two of the women who beat her in the 400 hurdles were national qualifiers last year. Those are the types of people she'll have to beat to make the national championship in the future. It was great to have
Amber Donnelly back throwing the javelin after elbow surgery last year. She threw cautiously and still qualified for the finals."
Gamble placed fourth in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles with a career-best and HPU best time of 13.96 seconds. That broke the HPU record of 14.11 set by Jasmine Jones-Green in 2007. Gamble came back later in the afternoon and placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.85, just 0.05 out of third place in the event.
