CONWAY, S.C. (3/21/10)—The Colgate University men's track and field team opened the outdoor season with a successful performance at the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina University.
Junior
Ed Sheridan (Phillipsburg, N.J.) kicked off the season with a second place performance in the 10,000-meter run as was followed by classmate
Grant Stauffer (Thomasville, Ga.) who finished fourth. Sheridan recorded the eighth best time in school history as he crossed the line in 31:44.48, while Stauffer ran a personal-record time of 32:58.30.
Junior
Dan Gleason (Norwalk, Conn.) also posted a second place finish in the 1,500-meter run as he crossed the line in 3:58.60.
The Raiders also ran a couple teams in the 4x800–meter relay. The indoor record setting team of junior
Ed Boulat (Larchmont, N.Y.), sophomore
Tim Metivier (Tonawanda, N.Y.), junior
Jon Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y.) and junior
Andy Smith (York, Pa.) finished second overall with a time of 7:41.97, which is the sixth best in school history, and was followed by the team of Gleason,
Dan Schwaibold (Atlanta, Ga.),
Eric Sause (Lake George, N.Y.) and
Jeremy Fisher (Fredericksburg, Va.) who finished third overall with a time of 7:49.92.
The Raiders will continue their outdoor season on April 2-3, at the Sam Howell Invitation
