Pole vaulters post marks

ABILENE -- Two ACU pole vaulters posted provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II outdoor championship meet on Friday as they opened the outdoor season at the McMurry Invitational.

Landon Ehlers won the pole vault with a provisional qualifying mark of 16 feet, 7.50 inches, while his teammate, Aaron Cantrell, finished second with the same mark.

On the women's side, Jessica Withrow won the 100 hurdles (15.37) and the high jump (5-0.25) and was second in the 200 meters (25.62) and long jump (17-11.00) as she began to get herself ready for heptathlon competitions later in the year.  None of her marks were qualifying marks for the national meet.

Back on the men's side, Nick Jones -- the two-time defending national outdor champion in the discus -- won both the shot put (55-8.25) and the discus (176-4) competing unattached.  Jones is redshirting this season and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

The rest of the ACU men's and women's track and field teams will be in action Saturday at the Bobby Lane Invitational, which is hosted by the University of Texas-Arlington at Maverick Stadium in Arlington.
