HPU women's track finishes adidas Raleigh Relays

The High Point University women's track & field team finished competition at the adidas Raleigh Relays on Saturday at NC State. Six Panthers ran the 1,500-meter.

HPU had six runners in section two of the 1,500-meter, with freshman Vanessa Piacente leading the way. Piacente ran a time of 4:48.05 to placed fourth in her heat and 16th in the section. Four other freshmen also competed in the 1,500-meter. Dani Paul placed sixth in her heat in 4:59.36, Kaylyn Peck took eighth in her heat in 5:00.52, Kelsey Paine placed ninth in her heat in 5:08.59 and Emma Tobin ran a time of 5:18.51 to place 13th in her heat. Senior Joya Canfield came off an injury to place 21st in the fastest heat in section two with a time of 5:05.23.

Piacente, Paul, Paine and Peck came back later in the afternoon to run the 4x800-meter relay, finishing 20th with a time of 9:57.29.

Junior Amber Donnelly placed 18th in the javelin with a throw of 111-2, coming in ahead of HPU freshman Lynee Pina and sophomore Gabrielle Barnes in that event. Sophomore Kelsey Hinchliffe finished 10th in her heat of the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

In Friday's portion of the Raleigh Relays, sophomore Manika Gamble ran a time of 1:01.13 in the 400-meter hurdles for the fifth place finish. In the 100-meter hurdles, she ran a time of 14.24 to place 15th in the preliminaries and qualify for the finals.

Junior Geneva Winterink ran a time of 18:06.83 to place 25th in a competitive section of the 5,000-meter and sophomore Christina Fenske tied for 10th in the high jump, clearing 5-3.

Next weekend, High Point University will be close to home again as the Panthers compete in the Asics Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
