Teixeira, Belden Lead Men's Track At Titan Twilight

FULLERTON, Calif. -- The Cornell men's track and field team finished up a great week of competition and training in California on Friday, competing at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Twilight and produced seven event wins as well as seven IC4A qualifiers.

The Big Red was particularly strong in the field.  Sophomore Bob Belden and senior co-captain Duane Teixeira led the way, as each won two events.  Belden took the shot put in an IC4A-qualifying 51-9 3/4 and later took the discus with a heave of 152-6; senior co-captain Scott Jaffee was second at 149-10.  Teixeira won the long jump at 23-3 1/4 as senior co-captain Josh Kirkpatrick (23-1 3/4) and sophomore Vince Formica (22-3 3/4) took second and third.  Teixeira then won the triple jump in an IC4A-qualifying 48-6 1/4 as classmate Gary Jones was third at 47-2 1/4.  Also winning was senior Damian Silverstrim, who took the hammer with an IC4A-qualifying throw of 172-9.  Sophomore Chris Arlinghaus and senior Jay Pierce tied for first in the high jump at 6-4 3/4 and seniors Jason Inzana (15-7 3/4) and Rick Zamora (15-1 3/4) took second and third in the pole vault.

On the track, senior Ola Williams won the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.65, which is #9 all-time at Cornell, and sophomore Danny Hagberg was second at 14.85 as both qualified for the IC4As; sophomore Nick Huber continued his come-back from injury and placed third at 14.90.  Both bettered the IC4A standard as the 4X100 of Kirkpatrick, freshman Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom, sophomore Chase Aaronson and freshman Bruno Hortelano-Roig ran 41.35 to again place first and the 4X400 of senior Marcel van Eeden (48.9), sophomore Brian Freitas (48.6), senior co-captain Mike Kippins (48.6) and sophomore Dan Thomas (49.0) ran 3:15.19 to get second.  Adarquah-Yiadom was second in the 100 at 10.89 with Aarson third at 10.95 and Hortelano-Roig was third in the 200 at 22.25, with Williams fourth at 22.29 and Thomas fifth at 22.81.  In the 400 hurdles, Freitas was second in 54.25, Kippins was third in 54.43 and sophomore Ken McClain placed fifth in 55.74.  Also placing in the top five was van Eeden in the 400 (4th, 49.32) and freshman Nick Wade (5th, 49.58), also in the 400.  And in the 800, freshman Will McFall placed third in 1:55.93 and junior Tommy Roy was fourth at 1:55.61.
