Cullowhee, N.C.- The Kennesaw State women’s track and field team continued to look impressive in the early stages of their outdoor season, breaking four school records and winning six events at the Beynon Sports Surfaces Catamount Classic at the Catamount Athletic Complex at Western Carolina University.

Sophomore Victoria Jackson, who was part of the record-setting 4x200 Meter relay team in the Owls first outdoor meet of the season and set several school records during the indoor season, continued to re-write program history on Saturday, as her 12.02 second time in the 100 Meters was good enough for a third place finish and tied the fastest time run in that event in school history.

Jackson was joined in the record-making business with fellow sprinter, senior LaKeshia Stinson, who bettered her record-time in the 100 Meter Hurdles of 14.57 seconds that she set at the A-Sun Championships in 2008 with a 14.34 second performance on Saturday, to improve on her program-best time and finish second in the event.

Freshman pole vaulter Michelle Quimby and junior jumper Jill Arthur each set school records on their way to winning their respective events. Quimby cleared 3.50 meters in the Pole Vault, breaking the program record of 3.35 meters that she set two weeks ago at the Asics Coastal Carolina Invitational.

Arthur’s Triple Jump victory came with a leap of 12.38 meters, breaking her own record of 12.13 meters that she set at last year’s LSU Alumni Gold. She also won the Long Jump with a distance of 5.66 meters on Saturday.

Sophomore Suzzette Van-Lare, who shares the jumping duties with Arthur and finished second to her in the Long Jump, was victorious in the high jump on Saturday, clearing 1.55 meters to take the honors in the event.

Sophomore Brittany Robinson was victorious in the 800 Meters on Saturday, running the race in 2:18.39 to win the event by a little over three tenths of a second.

Freshman throws specialist Suzee Mills had perhaps her most impressive performance of her young career with the Owls in Saturday, winning the Discus with a throw of 41.44 meters, and complementing that performance with third place finishes in the Javelin (35.75 meters) and Hammer Throw (44.62 meters). Freshman Patricia Damron, who just began competing for the Owls during outdoor season, was right behind Mills in the Javelin, finishing fourth with a throw of 35.32 meters.

The six event victories were among the 16 top-three finishes the Owls amassed on Saturday in the meet, which included A-Sun rivals East Tennessee State and USC-Upstate.

The Owls return to action this Friday when they travel to Gainesville, Fla. to take part in the Florida Relays.
