CofC Track & Field Prepares for Duke Invitational This Weekend

CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston women's track & field returns to the Tar Heel State this weekend to compete in the Duke Invitational on Apr. 2-3.

More than 1,500 athletes from 50 schools are set to participate in the two-day meet held at Wallace Wade Stadium on Duke's campus. Six teams from the Southern Conference, including CofC, will compete.

The meet kicks off on Friday at noon with the women's javelin, where freshman Marlene Aydlette (Columbia, S.C./Glenforest) will represent the Cougars.

Three-time Southern Conference Athlete of the Week Jelain McArthur (Laurens, S.C./Laurens District) will follow with the triple jump at 1 p.m. The freshman picked up her third weekly award in as many weeks after breaking the school record in the triple jump for the second time this season at the Raleigh Relays. Her distance of 39'5" gave her a ninth-place finish and eclipsed her old record by more than a foot.

McArthur will also compete in the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump on Saturday.

Junior Mary Zolga (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) will run in the 400-meter hurdles, one week after surpassing her own school record. Zolga's time of 1:04.27 is more than a full second faster than the previous record she set on Mar. 12 at the Palmetto Invitational.

On the track, five members of Charleston's squad will compete in the 1,500 meters. Sophomore Kristen Wolfe (Midlothian, Va./James River) led the pack last weekend at the Raleigh Relays, finishing 28th with a time of 4:52.59. Wolfe will also represent the team in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday.

The meet will wrap up on Saturday evening with the final event for the Cougars being the 4x400 meter relay. Senior Emily Nagle (Annapolis, Md./Richmond) and sophomores Callen Powers (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch), Tierney Willard (Midlothian, Va./NC State) and Wolfe will make up the CofC relay team.

Select members of the men's cross country team will compete in three different events as part of the NCAA rule that allows them to compete in five spring races.

Results will be posted throughout the day on www.flashresults.com.
