Gigstead, Tingelstad Win Titles at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. ? The North Dakota State women's track and field team captured two event titles on the first day of the Duke Invitational Friday, April 2.  Freshman Ashley Tingelstad won the 200 meters in 24.54, ranking eighth on the NDSU all-time performance charts, while junior Brittany Gigstead was first in the 400 meters in 58.50.  Overall, the Bison tallied 13 top eight finishes.

In the 200 meters, senior Heather Zander was second behind Tingelstad in a time of 25.44.  Junior Emily Black also finished in the top eight, placing seventh in 26.25.

Gigstead also led three Bison to top eight finishes in the 400.  Senior Amy Bestland was fifth in 58.98 and freshman Faith Kruchowski was seventh in 59.59.

Freshman Lauren Rice placed fourth in the 3,000 meters in a personal best time of 10:04.19.  Her time ranks ninth all-time at NDSU.

In the pole vault, sophomore Amy Marquardt finished fourth with a mark of 12-1 ½, only half an inch from her personal best.

Sophomore Kristen Killoran and senior Brittni Bruenjes placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the triple jump.  Killoran's mark was 39-8 and Bruenjes' was 39-5 ¼.

Senior Courtney Carpenter was sixth in the javelin with a toss of 123-9. 

Senior Devon Wentz finished third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.59.  In the 1,500 meters, junior Christine Bruins placed fifth in 4:36.72.

The team concludes action at the Duke Invitational Saturday, April 3.
