MACON, Ga. – For the third time in 2010, senior thrower Josh McNair was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Field Athlete of the week, the A-Sun announced on Wednesday. McNair was honored for his performance at the Florida Relays, which included a record-breaking performance in the Shot Put.

McNair’s toss of 16.50 meters in the Shot Put broke his previous Kennesaw State record of 15.92 meters and placed him 10th in the event, which featured athletes from schools such as Florida, Penn State, South Carolina and Florida. It is currently the longest throw among all Shot Putters in the Atlantic Sun Conference this season. He also competed in the Hammer Throw in Gainesville, finishing 16th with a throw of 54.06 meters.

“We are very pleased with Josh’s performance this weekend, however, we think this is just a glimpse of what he will accomplish this season,” said throws coach Jason Carruthers.

McNair, who redshirted during 2009’s outdoor season, also took home weekly conference honors on March 17, after a runner-up performance in the Shot Put and third place finish in the Discus at the Asics Coastal Carolina Invitational. He also won AOTW in January after a stellar performance at the Niswonger Invitational. Overall, this is the fourth time he has received such an honor during his career.

“As always its an honor to be named Field Athlete of the week for the A-Sun.  I really appreciate the conference for recognizing the accomplishments made by individual athletes because of how hard we work,” McNair said. “I will continue working hard to give this conference and my school the notoriety that they really deserve.”
