Josh Morgan ran a career-best 3:46.13 to place eighth in a loaded 1,500-meter race to lead the High Point University men's track & field team at the Joe Hilton Carolina Fast Times meet on Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
"That was a great breakthrough for Josh," said HPU head coach
Mike Esposito. "It was a really fast race and Josh closed well. His time should solidify his position for the first round of the NCAA Championship.
TJ Brancaccio also had a good performance in the pole vault and he seems poised to go higher."
Morgan's 3:46.13 beat his previous career best of 3:49.16, which he ran at the Stanford Invitational on March 26. Morgan is the second-fastest 1,500-meter runner in HPU history behind only record-holder Taylor Milne. NC State's Ryan Hill won the race at UNC in 3:40.81.
