Fleet second at Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. -- ACU sophomore thrower Tyler Fleet continued his strong outdoor season Friday as he finished second in the hammer throw at the Sooner Invitational.

Fleet -- who won the hammer last week at the Michael Johnson Classic at Baylor -- finished a strong second with a career-best throw of 196 feet, 3 inches.  Fleet had already provisionally qualified for next month's NCAA Division II outdoor championship meet in the event, but his throw Friday was 16 feet better than his previous best of 180-1.

Fleet moves from No. 22 in the nation on the hammer throw performance list to No. 9 in the country.

Also at the Sooner Invitational on Friday, senior Linda Brivule finished second in the javelin throw with a mark of 157-4.  Brivule has already automatically qualified for the national championship meet.

The Wildcats have a slew of athletes who will be competing Saturday at the meet.  After Saturday's meet, the Wildcats only have one more meet -- next Saturday's Oliver Jackson Invitational at Elmer Gray Stadium -- before the Lone Star Conference championship meet, May 7-9 in San Angelo.
