BOONE, N.C. – Freshman Natalie Atabek finished second in the 10,000 meters to earn All-Southern Conference honors and lead the Davidson Wildcat women's track and field team as competition opened at the 2010 SoCon Outdoor Track Championships Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium on the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.

Atabek finished second in the 10,000 meters with a time of 37:51.68, just behind Elon's Caitlin Beeler, who won the event with a time of 37:27.42. Her second-place finish earns her All-Southern Conference honors for the third time in her young career and makes her the only freshman in Davidson history to have been named All-SoCon in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. She earned All-SoCon honors with a third-place finish in the 5,000 meters (17:49.01) at the indoor championships in February, after earning All-SoCon honors with a ninth-place finish at the cross-country championships in October.

“Natalie ran a great race today!” head coach Jen Straub said. “To have earned All-Southern Conference honors in cross-country, indoor and outdoor track is a tremendous accomplishment, and I am extremely proud of her! We had some other great performances today as well, so overall I am very proud of how our team competed!”
