ATHENS, Ga. – Three Owls competed in the Georgia Invitational this weekend, setting two program records and moving into top tier spots in the conference in their respective events in the final tune-up before the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.
Throws specialists Suzee Mills, a freshman, and Jessica Lumpkin, a junior, joined freshman Javelin thrower Patricia Damron in Athens on Saturday. Lumpkin set the school record in the Shot Put with a top toss of 13.48 meters (44’2.75”), while Mills etched her name into the record books for the first time in her career, setting a new program mark in the Discus Throw with a 45.24 meter effort (148’5”). They finished sixth and fifth in their events, respectively, and Mills’ mark in the Discus Throw is tops in the conference, while Lumpkin’s Shot Put mark is second.
Damron placed third in the Javelin, with a top throw of 34.74 meters (114’00”), right behind Mills, who finished second with a throw of 38.96 meters (127’10”).
The three will go travel with their teammates to Jacksonville, Fla., this week, where they will compete in the A-Sun Outdoor Championship beginning on Friday.
