A-Sun Women's Track & Field Championships I Live Results

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – This weekend, the Kennesaw State women’s track team has two things on their mind, the first being winning the Atlantic Sun Conference championship after runner-up performances at the cross country championship in October and the indoor championship in February, and secondly, sending their head coach Don McGarey out on top in his final event as leader of the Owls.

“Coach McGarey is going to be missed a lot and we really want to go out and perform well for him this weekend,” said senior Erin Sutton. “But, you’ll never hear him say anything about himself. His focus is always on us and making sure that we are prepared to give our best performance and compete for the championship.”

Sutton and her distance teammates, including Mackenzie Howe, are going to give the Owls solid points this weekend, but a surging squad over the past few weeks has given McGarey more confidence headed into the championships.

“We are definitely on the rise,” said Coach McGarey. “Our times have dropped progressively every single meet and I really think we will see some peak performances from many of our athletes.”

Throwers Suzee Mills and Jessica Lumpkin are both coming off strong performances this past weekend at the University of Georgia and are going to be looked upon to make a run in Jacksonville. Mills has the top discus throw in the conference this year and Lumpkin is just inches off the best distance in the shot put. Overall, the Owls have the top conference marks in four events heading into Friday, and are in the top-three in 14 different events.

“Suzee and Jessica had an excellent weekend in Athens and are throwing the best they have all season,” added McGarey. “If we can maintain composure and keep our confidence level high, not just in throws, but overall, then we can be in a good position to challenge.”

Jill Arthur and Cynthia Davis will also look to make an impact this weekend. Arthur has the best triple jump this season and Davis will look to better her conference-leading time in the 100 meters, as she currently stands two one-hundredths of a second better than Charisma Anderson of North Florida.

“Our sprinters, long and short, have all been turning over well,” said McGarey. “Jill always has the potential to put a good jump out there and Jakia Ragland could pop a big jump at any time.”

The Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Track Championship begins on Friday and concludes on Saturday evening at Hodges Stadium. The women’s heptathlon begins the championship on Friday morning at 9 a.m. Live scoring will be available throughout the weekend.
