JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Josh McNair and Adam Reed won conference titles on Friday to lead the Kennesaw State Owls to first place after Day One of the Atlantic Sun Conference Track and Field Championships, hosted by North Florida. The Owls head into the final day with 63 points, 15 points in front of defending champion East Tennessee State.

McNair earned All- Atlantic Sun Conference honors in two events, winning the Shot Put with a top toss of 16.89 meters to break the conference record of 16.07 meters set by Gardner-Webb’s Matt Knippen in 2006, and finishing second in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 55.32 meters.

His Hammer Throw performance was second only to Belmont’s Joe Frye, who threw the hammer an impressive 57.41 meters, as both competitors smashed the original A-Sun record of 54.20 meters. McNair’s effort also broke Kennesaw State’s outdoor program record, which McNair already held with a 55.09 meter effort in 2008.

The Shot Put title was the second A-Sun outdoor win in McNair’s career, as he took home first place honors in the Discus Throw in 2008. He is also the second consecutive Owl to win the Shot Put, as the now-graduated Aymerick Kolokilagi won the event last year.

Adam Reed, a junior, won the Pole Vault with a top clearing jump of 4.67 meters. He was one of four Owls to score in the event, as they racked up a total of 20 points in the Pole Vault alone.

Overall, nine Owls scored for the Black and Gold on Friday. They are trying to win their second-ever A-Sun outdoor title, as they won their first in 2008, and are also trying to obtain track and field’s vaunted “Triple Crown,” as the men’s program has already taken home the cross country and indoor track and field titles during the athletic year.

The final day of the championships commences on Saturday morning at 9 a.m., when Brian Graham and Damarcus Henley compete in the final four events of the Decathalon. Graham finds himself in fourth place and Henley in seventh after the first five events on Friday. Live scoring of the championship will be available throughout Saturday.
