ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Seniors Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) and Erika Sepich (Canton, Ill./Canton) along with sophomore Michelle Hartmann (Savanna, Ill./Prince of Peace) each earned First-Team Missouri Valley Conference Track & Field Scholar-Athlete honors announced by the league office Thursday.
Nowak set a school record in the 800 meters at the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championship last week, finishing second in the event. An all-conference performer at both the indoor and outdoor MVC Championships in her final season, she also was part of the second-place distance medley relay team at the 2010 State MVC Indoor Championships in February and is a three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete. A mechanical and bio-medical engineering major, Nowak owns a 3.97 cumulative grade point average.
Sepich earned Valley Scholar-Athlete honors for the second consecutive year after finishing sixth in the javelin at last week's MVC Outdoor Championship. She had a season-best toss of 126 feet, eight inches (38.62 meters) at last week's competition. A health science major, Sepich owns a 3.85 cumulative grade point average.
Hartman joined Nowak on the second-place distance medley relay team at the 2010 MVC Indoor Track & Field Championship. The group finished second with a time of 11:55.21. A psychology major, Hartman owns a 3.86 cumulative grade point average.
Student-athletes with a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a sophomore in athletic and academic standing who finish among the top eight at either the MVC Indoor or Outdoor Track & Field Championships are included on the Scholar-Athlete team.
Bradley has had at least one MVC Scholar-Athlete each of the last three years and the three MVC Scholar-Athletes are the most for the Braves since having four in 2002-03.
