PEORIA, Ill. - Junior Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) will represent Bradley at the 2010 NCAA Track & Field West Regional in Austin, Texas, announced Thursday. Goldkamp will run in the 1,500 meter prelimaries Thursday, May 27 at 5 p.m. with the finals scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 29.
One of 48 competitors in the field in the 1,500 meters, Goldkamp turned in a school outdoor record time of 4:26.76 at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., on May 8. The first Brave to win a Valley Track & Field title since Mary Ellen Hill-Shupbach won the 10,000 meters in 2000, Goldkamp is the first Bradley competitor to claim the Valley's 1,500 meter title after crossing the line with a time of 4:27.67 to edge Wichita State's Tonya Nero (4:28.70) at Sunday's MVC championship.
Goldkamp is the first Bradley Track & Field athlete to advance to the NCAA Regional since Jennifer Jenkins finished 20th in the hammer throw at the 2007 NCAA Mid-East Track and Field Regional in Columbia, Mo. She is the first runner to advance to NCAA postseason competition since Hill-Shupbach competed in the 5,000 meters at the 1999 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship.
