INDIANAPOLIS- Five Kennesaw State Owls learned that they were selected to compete in the 2010 NCAA Men’s Track and Field Championship when the field was announced on Friday afternoon. The East Preliminary Round begins May 27 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.

High Jumper Jerome McKinzie will be making his second consecutive trip to an NCAA national championship representing the Owls, as he competed in the NCAA Indoor National Championships in February. The three-time A-Sun Outdoor champion in the High Jump comes into next week with a top jump of 2.15 meters, placing him 15th in the East Region to this point.

McKinzie’s four Owl teammates will each be making their first trips to a national championship. Sophomore Kendall Parks and freshman Tremaine Grant each earned a spot in the 110 Meter Hurdles competition with performances of 14.03 and 14.04 seconds, respectively, in the A-Sun Championships last week. Sophomore Daniel Grass and senior Josh McNair each earned spots in the 800 Meters and Shot Put, respectively.

This is the first time the Owls are eligible to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships, since the athletic department just complete the NCAA’s mandatory, four-year re-classification process last summer.

The first two rounds of the Championship will be held in Greensboro, with the field in each individual event being pared down to 24, with the top-12 finishers in each event from the East Preliminary Rounds and West Preliminary Rounds making the trip to Eugene, Oregon, for the final two rounds beginning on June 9.
