GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Cornell track and field teams finished up a very successful three days of competition at the NCAA First Round in Greensboro, NC on Saturday.

After severe thunderstorms forced Friday night's steeplechases to be rescheduled for Saturday morning, the three Big Red athletes in the event found a way to produce great performances. Senior Stephanie Pancoast earned her second straight trip to the NCAA Finals, finishing third in her heat (and ninth overall) in 10:30.63, moving up well throughout the race in a great competitive effort after missing the beginning part of the outdoor season with an injury to her SI joint. Classmate Erin Roberts ran a gutsy race as well, going out hard and ultimately placing eighth in her heat and 29th overall in 10:53.99.

In the third heat of the men's steeplechase, junior Adrien Dannemiller ran great, positioning himself well going into the final lap. Unfortunately, he fell on the final water jump and on the final barrier but still somehow managed to set a personal best of 8:47.80, #2 all-time at Cornell. He placed seventh and, heart-breakingly, was the first person out of qualifying for the NCAA Finals in Eugene.

Later, in the women's 5000, freshman Kelsey Karys ran a terrific race but was beset by bad luck as well. In third place and running strong with only 1100 meters to go, she was tripped and fell but still managed to get up and finish, running 16:38.05 to place 11th in her heat and 18th overall (after coming in as the 35th seed).

Earlier in the day, sophomore Bob Belden and senior Scott Jaffee competed in the discus with Belden 33rd with a throw of 159-10 and Jaffee 39th with a mark of 154-9.

And in the men's triple jump, senior Gary Jones was 17th, only five centimeters from earning three more jumps, reaching 50-4 3/4. Senior Duane Teixeira suffered a freak injury in warm-ups and had three fouls.

And in the final event of the meet for Cornell, the men's 4X400 finished 22nd, moving up two places from their pre-meet seeding. Senior Marcel van Eeden led off in 47.7, junior Chris Tait ran 47.7, sophomore Dan Thomas split 48.2 and sophomore Nick Huber anchored in 47.7 as the team ran 3:11.80.
