College of Charleston and USATF Host Level 1 School

CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston will be the host for a USA Track & Field Coaching Education Level 1 clinic on July 9-11.

The clinic is open to all USATF members and is a starting point for all track & field coaches. The Level 1 program covers all events in a foundational manner by emphasizing fundamentals, rules, safety/risk management and instruction techniques.

The Level 1 program prepares individuals to coach middle school, high school and club athletes. The 2½ day clinic includes classroom instruction and hands-on training. Individuals are certified as a USATF Level 1 Coach upon completion of the course and passing an online exam.

Charleston's course will be taught by Andrew Allden, Glen McAtee and Mike Young. Allden has spent 18 years as a Division I cross country & track coach and is a Level I and II certified instructor. McAtee, a Level II School throws instructor, is Level III certified in the throws and has worked with Clemson and Cal State Northridge's track & field teams. Young is a Level III instructor in the jumps, sprints and throws and does human performance consulting.

Registration is $125 until June 25, after which it increases to $150. Lodging and meals are available as well. Interested participants can register online at www.usatf.org/groups/Coaches/education/schools/.
