Eight Of EKU's 15 Teams Earn GPA's Higher Than 3.0 For Spring Semester

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University’s athletic teams posted a very successful spring semester in the classroom. Eight of the University’s 15 teams earned grade-point-averages of 3.0 or higher and five teams equaled or tied their best spring GPA of the decade. All EKU student-athletes combined for a 3.09 GPA for the spring semester, the highest mark of the decade.

“I am very proud of the efforts of our student-athletes in the classroom,” said Dr. Randy Kennedy, EKU’s Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services. “They also were actively involved in the community and supporting each other in our Colonel Challenge. Their hard work shows in their team GPA, and I am happy for their success.”

Men’s tennis (3.48), women’s soccer (3.37), volleyball (3.37), women’s golf (3.32), men’s cross country (3.27), women’s tennis (3.27), women’s cross country (3.21), and women’s basketball (3.09) were the eight teams to earn a 3.00 GPA or higher in the spring. A ninth team, men’s golf, posted a 2.99 GPA and a 10th squad, men’s track, earned a 2.96 GPA.

The Colonel football team was one of five EKU squads to tie or exceed their respective team’s highest spring GPA of the decade. The Eastern men’s basketball team, men’s cross country, men’s tennis and men’s track were the other teams to set a 10-year high in the classroom.

Twenty-five student-athletes had a 4.0 grade-point-average for the spring semester. For the fall semester, 50 percent of Eastern’s student-athletes had a 3.0 GPA or higher. That number rose to 54 percent for the spring semester. EKU had 66 student-athletes earn a spot on the Dean’s List in the spring, the highest number of the decade.
