ITHACA, N.Y. -- For the fourth consecutive season, Cornell men's head track and field coach
Nathan Taylor has been named the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Northeast Region Men's Coach of the Year, the organization announced on Friday. The award is voted upon by the nation's coaches.
Taylor, who won the award for the fourth straight time and fifth in his tenure at Cornell, guided the Big Red men to an Ivy League record eighth consecutive Outdoor Heptagonal Championship this May, surpassing the legendary Penn teams of the 1970s and the Cornell women's team from earlier this decade, who both won seven straight crowns.
Under Taylor's direction, the Big Red won six individual events and two relays, with a pair of athletes (
Bruno Hortelano-Roig and Josh Kirkpatrick) both winning a pair of events. The pair also teamed up to lead the 4x100m relay to victory, along with
Chris Tait and
Chase Aaronson, while the 4x400m relay team also claimed victory, with
Marcel van Eeden, Brian Frietas, Dan Thomas and Tait picking up first place. Other winners at the Heps included
Nick Huber (110m hurdles) and
Gary Jones (triple jump).
Additionally, Kirkpatrick was named the men's Outstanding Performer of the Meet, the third straight season that a Big Red athlete has claimed the meet's top honor.
In addition to winning the award in 2007, 2008, and 2009, Taylor claimed his first prize in 2003 after leading the Big Red to its first Outdoor Heptagonal victory since 1985.
