EUGENE, Ore. -- Cornell junior Kim Standridge finished third in her heat and ninth overall, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the finals of the women's 800m at the NCAA Championships, which got underway on Wednesday on the campus of the University of Oregon. As the seventh American finisher in the event, Standridge claims her first career All-America honor.

Standridge, running in her first NCAA Championship meet, finished third in the first heat, posting a time of 2:06.19. With the top two runners in each heat automatically making the finals, she had to wait through another two heats to see if her time would stand up. In the end, both of the third-place finishers in the next two heats posted slightly faster times, and Standridge would finish as the first qualifier out of the finals, which will be run on Friday evening.

Cornell's action in the NCAA Championships continues when senior Stephanie Pancoast competes in the women's 3000m steeplechase. That race will be contested on Thursday at 9:15 p.m. EDT. On Saturday, Cornell's third and final entrant, freshman Victoria Imbesi, will compete in the javelin throw, starting at 12:30 p.m. EDT.
